Telescopes?

Hi,

I have decent binoculars and cameras but know absolutely nothing about telescopes. Is anyone here an amateur astronomer who can make any sorts of recommendations for a starter telescope for a child that costs no more than say the low hundreds? I'm just starting to do some reading on the astronomy * and frankly the information is a little overwhelming. I just want something we can have fun with going to look at the night sky and integration with iPads would be interesting as well. I definitely want to get her a real telescope, not some sort of child's toy. But want to keep the price reasonable too.

Any help will be apprecited.
